A new survey has revealed that managers of SMEs are much more optimistic about the future of the economy than bosses of larger companies.
Lord Eatwell’s report, published by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) shows that fewer than half (47 per cent) of the SME managers questioned fear the up-coming government cuts, compared to three-in-five managers of bigger firms.
Fewer people in charge of SMEs feel insecure in their roles too – just 8 per cent compared to 42 per cent of bosses from companies which employ at least 250 people.
Lord Eatwell remarks that "highly skilled and capable managers" are needed to help the economy grow and has pleaded with the government to "do more to stimulate a reliable flow of bank lending" in order to aid them.
